AP English Language and Composition – Ms. Drohan and Mr. Plyler

Due: August 14th or August 15th, 2023

Book: The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne

As you read, keep track of the following:

1. Plot

  • What are the actions or events of the narrative? List major and minor events.
  • How does the passage of time function in the plot? Chronological? Is there foreshadowing? Are there flashbacks? List them.
  • Identify the climax.
  • Identify all conflicts (man vs. man, man vs. himself, man vs. nature, man vs. society). Be specific!

2. Character

  • Create a list of major and minor characters followed by a description.

3. Setting

  • Identify the setting(s) (time, place, atmosphere).

4. Images and Symbols

  • What images are used in this work?
  • Are the images literal or figurative?
  • Are there repeated images? List them.
  • What symbols are used in this work?

5. Themes

  • Create a list of thematic connections that are addressed in the novel.

AP English Literature and Composition - Ms. Newman

Due: August 24th or August 25th, 2023

Book: Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

As you read, keep track of the following:

For incoming AP PreCalculus Students:

Below you will find directions on accessing the optional summer math assignment. This assignment is designed to help students keep their skills sharp, or to help those students who are unsure about PreCalculus make sure their algebra skills are up to par with expectations.  It is completely optional and will in no way affect your grade if you choose not to complete it, however it is highly recommended and strongly encouraged.

Directions for accessing the OPTIONAL Practice for PreCalculus Delta Math 

If you ALREADY have a Delta Math account: 

1. Log in to your existing account. 

2. Click on “Tools” and then “Manage Login and Teachers” 

3. On the next screen, select “Add Teacher” 

4. Enter the Teacher Code:  851396 and select the class “Optional Practice for PreCalculus”.

*Note: It will list the teacher as Locke, but you may have a different PreCalculus teacher when you get your schedule. That is not a problem as your actual teacher will have access to this information.

5. Once logged in, you will be taken to a screen that shows the optional practice assignment. You are not required to complete all problems. This is to help you for next year and will not be graded in any way ðŸ˜Š

If you do NOT have a Delta Math account: 

1. Go to www.deltamath.com and click on “Create Account” and then select “Student” 

2. In the pop-up window, enter the Teacher Code: 851396 

 

*Note: It will list the teacher as Locke, but you may have a different PreCalculus teacher when you get your schedule. That is not a problem as your actual teacher will have access to this information.

3. Select the class “Optional Practice for PreCalculus”

Summer School and Drivers Education 2023

Seminole County Summer School Link

HIGH SCHOOL SUMMER COURSE OPTIONS

  • Students are eligible to attend summer school at their zoned high school or take courses through Seminole County Virtual School (SCVS).
  • Students who attend a school on an approved SCPS transfer option may attend Summer School at their zoned school.
  • Daily student attendance is expected to receive credits in all Summer School courses.  The principal has the authority to withdraw a student from Summer School due to non or poor attendance.
  • Discipline problems will not be tolerated during Summer School. Students with discipline problems will be subject to possible dismissal from Summer School. Students are expected to adhere to the Seminole County Student Conduct and Discipline Code rules and regulations during summer school.

SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES

  • Summer School 2023
    • Credit Recovery Only – Available to students who previously earned a semester grade of a “D” or an “F” in a course.
    • Summer School Locations – All high school sites will host Summer School except Crooms Academy
    • June 5, 2023-June 29, 2023 (Monday-Thursday) - 7:20am-1:05pm

  • Driver Education 2023
    • Student Selection & Eligibility
      • Students will be selected through a lottery if more applications are received than space available.
      • Students must have their learner’s permit to enroll in the course.
    • Summer Course Delivery Model
      • Online Coursework: Deadline to complete is June 29, 2023
      • Behind the Wheel Instruction: Once the online course is completed, students will be instructed how to schedule the 6 hours of behind the wheel instruction with our community partner, the Florida Safety Council. This course must be completed by August 3, 2023.
    • Cost:
      • All portions of the Driver’s Education Summer Opportunity program are FREE for students accepted through the lottery.

REGISTRATION

Summer school at the designated sites is designed for remediation only (except Driver Ed and Seminole Virtual School), for the purpose of retaking courses in which the student earned a semester grade of D or F.  Courses will be offered via PLATO online learning in a computer lab and virtual school (Seminole County Virtual School (SCVS) registration required).  Virtual courses will be offered for both remediation and acceleration through SCVS.

Late registration will be held at each summer school site on June 5, 2023.  During late registration students will be placed in classes on a space available basis.  Students registering after the first day will need administrator approval.
